Hey hey busy moms, I hope you are doing fantastic! I hope your week is going well. I know we’re at the start of it, but don’t you just love the beginning of a week? It feels like anything could happen. Admittedly, there are times when it is like, oh dear God, my week has just started and I’m not too sure how I’m going to survive it. I totally feel you. I get it completely. That was me last week. It was insane. It was so busy. I had to schedule in little naps so that I could just, you know, just like, lay down for ten minutes. I even did that on a coaching call I was on. It was a group coaching. So it wasn’t just me and the coaching group. And I thought, I’ll just lay down with my headphones on and listen to the coaching call because there’s teaching involved.

Sharon Schuler (00:02:21) – Well, what do you know? It was it was a good thing I was on mute because I started snoring and I’m like, I’m so tired. But isn’t that that is just what happens. And a good practice, a good thing that we can do to make sure that we are not overbooked, that we are. We do not cram our day full of all the stuff to do on our to do list is this awesome technique, I love it, I’ve heard it about this technique from a couple different places and the technique is sticky note style to do list. I love it, it’s awesome. I heard it from Michael Hyatt and his big three concept that he teaches. I’ve also heard it from Christian writers who they use sticky notes as well. it was a technique given by Thomas Armstrong Jr. I think it was on one of his podcasts. Like, I’m not inventing. This is what I guess I wanted to say, but I found it super helpful. I was I was in a in the middle of like a drowning type week, not last week, but before.

Sharon Schuler (00:03:24) – And I heard an episode by Thomas and he was just like, just take a sticky note or might have been somebody that he was interviewing, but they were teaching about taking a sticky note and it’s like, it’s like a three by three sticky note. It’s just regular sized sticky note, nothing ginormous. So you can cheat or anything, but it’s just a regular sticky note. And you write on the sticky note on the one side what you’re going to do today, what is it that you are going to accomplish? Not a to do list, as Rachel Hollis would say, but a results list. What are you going to get done? And typically on a three by three sticky note, you can only really fill with three things. And this is great because let’s be honest, if you can write down tiny little things like check the email or do the laundry, or empty the dishwasher like, no, those are things that you probably do every day anyways, or things like that that are just rote, like you just automatically do them.

Sharon Schuler (00:04:32) – We don’t need a list about that. What we do need, though, is a results list, a list of things that we want to do or the things that have to get done. And if you only have three. Possibly for spaces depend on tiny write of things that you can get done, then that is going to set you up for success. You’re not going to be doing trying to accomplish 12 things and having knocked off six. And you add on for that, you go to bed feeling like crap. You go to bed saying, what did I get done? I got nothing done today. Oh wait, I did get that 1 or 2 things done, but I’m such a loser because I didn’t finish the other ten. So no, we’re not going to we’re going to get rid of that negative talk, that negative thinking. And that brings on the guilt feeling. We don’t need that guilt feeling. We don’t have time for that. If we just restrict ourselves down to just what we can put on one side of a sticky note, I think it will bring us so much joy, especially for the mom that is overwhelmed and drowning.

Sharon Schuler (00:05:38) – You know, in a day that doesn’t seem long enough, there’s a bunch of great whys about if, especially if you’re feeling this way and you’re going to try it out, you’re like, okay, I just need a couple other little motivator type points. But why should try this? Why I should just tuck away my agenda for a week, maybe go to the dollar store and pick up a pack of sticky notes like why should I even try this? Number one, it forces you to pick your top priorities for the day. Remember that list of 12 I said not a few minutes ago? Instead of the 12 things that you may be can accomplish, you are going to be forced to pick three. And if you are forced to restrict your to do list, your results list. If you are forced to restrict your results list, then you are going to have to think through what is the most important thing for me to get done today and how can I do it? That is one reason. Number two is that it forces you to leave the rest behind.

Sharon Schuler (00:06:38) – And that’s okay. I don’t know about you guys. I’m sure. I’m sure you guys have the same problem too. Is that when we get done something and we add on ten more things to the list, we just got done. A lot of the times is because we have all these amazing ideas, all these things that we want to do and try and be and change and grow. Self-Help books to read, new recipes to try. An amazing craft idea you saw on Pinterest. awesome novel that got a five star review on Amazon. It’s like all these things that we want to do and try and be and change and become right. And then add on that your kids and their extracurricular activities and your job and the demands they’re there just can be more and more added into our lives. And that’s not a bad thing at all. But because you have your set amount of time to spend on your life, and you have all these short 24 hours in a day, and you get restricted by a sticky note with 3 to 4 things on it, you are going to be forced to leave the rest of your to do list behind, and I mean behind in like forever.

Sharon Schuler (00:07:52) – Like you will never get to do the hobby that you thought of three layers deep that you might get to someday. Now just toss that stuff out, return it, get your money back. It’s not going to happen. At least not now. Maybe. But sometimes the hardest thing to say no to is yourself is all the things you want to do, all the changes you want to make, all the books you want to read, the activities you want to go do, the trips that you want to see and experience. Sometimes it just forces us to say no to ourselves and to leave the rest of that list behind. Cross it off. It is okay. Number three, it forces you to become laser focused on what it is that you are seeking. Results for laser focused. Laser focused means that not only do you start whatever it is that you have to do on your list, you will also finish it in holy jumping that is like, oh, that is beautiful. I get sometimes we can get sometimes so stuck in our heads about how things have to be that perfection can stand in the way of us finishing, or perfection can force us to take forever to finish a job that should not have taken that long.

Sharon Schuler (00:09:17) – So if we can have a results list of 3 to 4 things, and we are just laser focused and knock out those 3 to 4 things before 10:00 in the morning, awesome. You get the whole rest of the day to do whatever else it is that you need to do. If you knock them off and they are done at 8:00 at night, you lay your head on the pillow and you do not think any guilty thoughts. You got it all. Done, you get it done. Your results list at 10:00 at night. You hustled hard. But you go to bed exhausted, with a tiny smile on your face because you got it done. Maybe not perfect, but you got it done. And done is always better than perfect. Number four. Is that? You’ll finish it. I jumped the gun. There. I said it before I read it. That’s totally fine. Number five is that you can swap out items, which is key here. If something’s not going right, a project gets delayed, something happens and you need to swap something out.

Sharon Schuler (00:10:24) – Do it. Just cross off something on your sticky note, and you’re going to just add it to the sticky note tomorrow or whenever that thing needs to get done. There’s no pressure here, you know, you can take this one big thing. Move it over here. Not a big deal. Number six is that it will help you build confidence. How many times is it that you promised yourself you are not going to waste your time watching the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy, but you are actually going to read that self-help book that you really wanted to finish. How many times is it that you’ve broken your word? I break my word all the time to myself and I heard it described this way. I think it was on Rachel Hollis podcast where she was saying. If you have a best friend and you promised them that you were going to show up and do something at a certain day, at a certain time, and you were going to do it, would you stand them up? Would you forget about them? Would you make a lame excuse, like watching Grey’s Anatomy to avoid going to see them at the coffee shop, know you are going to show up and you are going to be your best, so why the heck do we do that all the time to ourselves? And then we have no trust in ourselves and we don’t believe the words that we say.

Sharon Schuler (00:11:43) – It gets to the point to where I know I’ve done for myself, is that you don’t even really make promises to yourself because you know you’re just going to blow it the next day anyways. Yeah, I’m going to eat that cookie. Maybe not today. I’ll promise not today. Not screwed up? No. I’m going to eat it. I’ll promise again tomorrow. So to have three things on our list, on our sticky note, to knock out those results. Boom. Instant confidence boost right there. If you are having trouble figuring out where to start for time management because there are so much to do, so much going on, where the heck do you start? I want to invite you to grab this free downloadable Where to start for Time Management. It’s at my website, Elite Planning. Com forward slash time management. All one word all together. And what it is in there is to help you break down all the things that you are feeling and dreaming. But what it is, is to get you to focus on one thing to start with, and there’s a process to do it.
